Official versus independent repair in Australia
Manufacturer repair is not a rip off and independent repair is not a shortcut. They are two different products at two different prices, and the sales pitch for each one leaves out the same things. This page sets out the whole trade on published Australian numbers, including the parts that cost us the job.

What independent repair actually costs you
Written by an independent shop, which is exactly why it is worth reading the parts that are against us.
You give up manufacturer parts
This is the real one. We fit aftermarket incell and soft OLED panels. A good aftermarket panel is very close on colour and touch, and a bad one is dimmer, drains more battery and cracks easier. The grade is the whole difference between two independent quotes, and most shops do not tell you which one you are getting. We name the panel grade in the quote before any work starts.
You can affect a manufacturer warranty
If the device is still inside its manufacturer warranty, an independent repair can affect that cover for related faults. Australian Consumer Law guarantees still apply regardless of who repaired it, and they are not voided by independent repair, but the manufacturer's own warranty is a separate thing. If your device is under warranty and the damage might be covered, go to the manufacturer first. We will tell you that rather than take the job.
Recent phones can show a service notice
On recent iPhones, a non manufacturer screen or battery can put a message in settings, and some features tied to the original part can behave differently. It does not stop the phone working. You should know before, not after.
You give up the fixed service tier
Manufacturer service is priced per tier, not per fault. That is simple and predictable, and it is why a small fault can cost the same as a big one. Independent repair prices the actual broken part, which is cheaper on small faults and honest on big ones.
Board level work is where independents win outright
A charge port, a backlight circuit or a liquid damaged board is a component level repair. Manufacturers largely do not do it; they replace the device or quote the top tier. That is the gap the numbers above understate.
Three things the official price list does not tell you
These are absences in the manufacturers' own published pricing, not opinions about it.
Some models have no official option left
Apple no longer publishes any repair price for iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone X, iPhone 7, iPhone 8. Once a model drops off the service list the manufacturer route stops being a choice, and independent repair is the only way to keep the device working.
Apple has no charging port price
There is no charging port line anywhere in Apple's published Australian pricing. A dead charge port falls under Other damage, their most expensive tier, which on current models runs from several hundred dollars to over a thousand. It is a board level repair that takes under an hour on most models.
Official versus independent questions
Does an independent repair void my warranty in Australia?
Not your Australian Consumer Law rights, which apply no matter who repaired the device and cannot be voided by independent repair. The manufacturer's own warranty is separate: an independent repair can affect cover for related faults while the device is still inside it. If yours is in warranty and the damage might be covered, go to the manufacturer first.
Are aftermarket screens as good as the original?
A good aftermarket incell or soft OLED panel is close on colour, brightness and touch, and a cheap one is noticeably worse on all three. The grade is the whole difference. We name the grade in the quote, and genuine or manufacturer grade panels can be sourced on request and are quoted separately.
Why is the manufacturer so much more expensive?
Because they price per service tier rather than per broken part, and the tier assumes manufacturer parts, manufacturer labour and a device level swap. On a cracked screen that can be several times the cost of replacing the panel.
When should I use the manufacturer instead of you?
When the device is under manufacturer warranty and the fault might be covered, when you need manufacturer parts specifically, or when a device is new enough that a service notice would bother you. We will say so rather than take the job.
