MacBook liquid damage repair in Sydney
Coffee, water, wine: what happens in the next few hours decides whether it is a clean-up or a dead logic board. Power it off, do not charge it, and get it to a bench with an ultrasonic cleaner and a microscope. Assessed free within 24 hours, fixed quote, no fix no fee.
Do this now
Four moves, in order. Our wet phone guide covers phones; MacBooks have their own rules because the keyboard sits directly over the logic board.
1. Power it off and keep it off
Hold the power button until the screen goes dark. A running board with liquid on it is shorting itself with every second. Do not open the lid to check on it later.
RIGHT NOWoff means off
2. Unplug the charger, and leave it unplugged
Power through wet circuits is what turns a spill into a dead board. No charger, no powered hub, no plugged-in anything until the board has been inspected.
NO POWERthis is the big one
3. Tip it, wipe it, leave it open
Turn it upside down in a tent shape on a towel so liquid drains away from the board, wipe what you can reach, and leave the lid open. No rice, no hair dryer: heat drives moisture deeper and cooks the corrosion in.
2 MINUTESgravity helps, heat hurts
4. Get it to a bench fast
Corrosion starts within hours, and coffee, juice and wine are worse than water because the residue keeps conducting after it dries. Same day is ideal. It looks fine and still works? The corrosion has not finished yet.
TODAYsugary spills = hurry
Why MacBook spills are their own problem
The keyboard is a grate sitting over the most expensive part of the machine. Whatever lands on the keys is on the logic board within seconds, and it pools under the shields where towels cannot reach.
The usual casualties
Keyboard and trackpad connectors, the power rails that feed the board, and the backlight circuit, which is why so many post-spill MacBooks run but show a black screen. Each of these is a known, repairable fault.
Why the official quote is so high
The official repair path swaps the whole logic board or top case rather than fixing the damaged part of it, so quotes can land near the price of a new machine. Component-level repair fixes the same board instead, and that is micro-soldering we do in house.
Your data is on that board
Modern MacBooks solder the storage to the logic board, so saving the board and saving your files are the same job. One more reason a repaired board beats a replaced one, and why the machine should stay powered off until then.
What we do on the bench
Liquid damage is a board job, not a drying job. Assessed within 24 hours of hitting the bench, diagnosis free.
Strip down, board out
Full disassembly straight away: bottom case off, battery disconnected, shields lifted, the board freed so nothing stays trapped and wet inside.
Ultrasonic clean and inspect
The board goes through the ultrasonic bath to strip residue and corrosion, then under the microscope pad by pad to map exactly what the liquid attacked.
Component-level repair
Corroded joints reworked, damaged components replaced on the board, backlight circuits repaired, then reassembly and a full test: charge, boot, keyboard, trackpad, screen.
Our prices
Getting it assessed costs nothing. You only ever pay for a repair you have approved.
Fitted prices: parts, labour and our workmanship warranty included. Free assessment first, your fixed quote before any work, and no fix means no fee.
MacBook liquid damage questions
Can a MacBook with liquid damage be repaired?
Often, yes. Liquid rarely kills the whole board; it attacks specific areas, most often around the keyboard connector, the power rails and the backlight circuit, and those are repaired at component level under the microscope. The sooner it arrives, the better the odds, and the free assessment tells you where you stand before you spend anything.
What should I do right now after a spill?
Hold the power button until it is off, unplug the charger, and do not charge it or try turning it back on to check. Skip the rice and the hair dryer. Corrosion starts within hours, sugary drinks and wine are the worst offenders, so get it to a bench as soon as you can, ideally the same day.
How much does MacBook liquid damage repair cost in Sydney?
Assessment is free. Ultrasonic cleaning and treatment runs from $175, board-level repair from $289 and backlight repair from $199. You get a fixed quote before any work starts, and if we cannot fix it you pay nothing.
Apple quoted a full logic board replacement. Do I have another option?
Usually, yes. Apple swaps whole boards and top cases rather than repairing them, which is why those quotes can approach the price of a new machine. Board-level repair replaces the individual components the liquid damaged on the same board, for a fraction of that, and your data stays where it is.
Can you save my files if the MacBook is beyond repair?
On most modern MacBooks the storage is soldered to the board, so the data lives or dies with it. Recovery means repairing the board far enough to boot once and copy everything off, which is exactly the work our bench does. If the files matter more than the machine, say so when you book and we treat it as a recovery job: no data, no fee.
